Apartments and Private Rentals

Circus Apartments, Berlin, Germany

Located in a cool family-friendly neighbourhood with excellent transport connections, these apartments are well set-up for families; with open-plan living space and separate bedrooms. Toys, games and a well equipped kitchen makes this a great place to stay with kids.

Airbnb, Vancouver, Canada

This small but charming apartment is located in South Main, a leafy and friendly suburb of Vancouver. Good transport links enabled us to explore the city and its surroundings easily. We felt at home living among locals in this cosy apartment.

Well located in central Reykjavik, this apartment is set up brilliantly for families with separate sleeping spaces, a PlayStation games console, comfortable seating and a well equipped kitchen. Breakfast is provided every day, taking away the hassle of early morning starts with children. (Pictured above)

Hotels

Hilton Garden Inn, Torshavn, Faroe Islands

This hotel is THE BEST accommodation that we have ever stayed in. A sustainable green-roofed hotel with free buses to the town centre. The connecting rooms are gigantic with designer furniture, panoramic windows, and luxury bathrooms. The staff are wonderful, the breakfasts and dinners are spot on, and the views are stunning. The free laundry and the hot tub are nice bonus touches.

Antigua San Blas, Cusco, Peru

This wonderful hotel in Peru offers a luxury experience at an affordable price. The rooms are beautifully appointed, with gorgeous furniture and textiles. The building has been restored and designed to provide plenty of places to relax including a lovely courtyard with comfortable seating arranged around fire pits. A turn-down service with free hot water bottles and tea are just some of the extra touches that make this hotel special.

Ramada, Khao Lak, Thailand

For a relaxing beach stay with interesting day trips, this hotel nails it. We loved the short hop between the beautiful swimming pool and sandy beach, the spacious luxury bedrooms, the beachside restaurant, the kids club, and the free yoga classes. Nearby excursions to jungle and waterfalls, markets and turtle sanctuaries make this a wonderful place with young children.

Scandic Kodbyen, Copenhagen

We had a fabulous city break at this uber trendy hotel in the meat packing district on the edge of Copenhagen centre. Our corner suite with separate sleeping spaces had excellent views. It was really easy to reach city centre sights by train or bike, and walking around the immediate neighbourhood was a pleasure.

Small and Family Owned

Mountain Home wins its place on this list thanks to the welcoming owners Lisa and Scott who work hard to provide a home away from home for wary hikers and travellers. We loved the homemade breakfasts comprising locally grown ingredients, board games, interesting collection of books, and big gardens to play in.

Mountain Home, Front Royal, USA

We stayed in many motels during our USA road trips and the Franciscan Inn was by far the best thanks to the affordable price, friendly and helpful staff, big heated pool, and free tea and cookies. In addition, Franciscan Inn was well located close to both the beach and to Santa Barbara town centre.

Franciscan Inn, Santa Barbara, USA

Rooms are housed across a number of historic buildings in this small but charming town in the eastern fjords of Iceland. We loved the period features in our bedroom including a kids’ bed in the alcove. Breakfast was simple but high quality with a range of healthy options including the best freshly baked croissants we have ever eaten.

Hotel Aldan, Seyoisfjiorour, Iceland
